A Way of Eating

Pure Diet

Three principles. Centuries of practice. A clearer way to live.

Pure Diet is practised today by a growing number of people across Asia, Europe, Australia and beyond. What they have in common is not a particular belief — it is a shared experience of feeling lighter, clearer, and more present.

Pure Diet is a way of eating built on three clear principles, known as the 3As. It has roots in centuries of practice across Buddhist, Taoist, and Vedic traditions, and it fits naturally into modern life in any city.

It shares the plant-based foundation of veganism and goes further in two specific areas: removing the five alliums and avoiding alcohol. The intention is not purity as an ideal, but clarity as a lived experience.

What each principle means, and why.

A
Animal Free

No meat, fish, seafood, dairy, or eggs.

Pure Diet is fully plant-based. The reasoning is straightforward: our food choices reach further than our own plate. They touch the lives of other beings and the health of the environment we all share. Many people begin here, and find it easier than they expected.

A
Allium & Asafoetida Free

No onion, garlic, leek, shallot, or asafoetida.

This is the principle that surprises people most, and also the one that tends to produce the most noticeable results. Across Buddhist, Taoist, and Vedic traditions, these five have long been understood to overstimulate the nervous system — agitating when eaten raw, dulling when cooked. Many practitioners report a shift in mental clarity within days of removing them. The best way to understand it is to try it for yourself.

The five: onion · garlic · leek · shallot · asafoetida (hing)

A
Alcohol Free

No alcohol.

Alcohol changes the way we perceive and respond to the world. Choosing not to drink, in this context, is not about abstinence as a virtue. It is a practical decision to stay present — in conversation, in the body, in the moment. People who practise Pure Diet often describe sobriety not as a restriction, but as a reclaimed clarity.

A note on cooking

Whole ingredients,
by preference.

Pure Diet does not prescribe a specific cooking style. In practice, most people who eat this way naturally gravitate toward whole, minimally processed ingredients — not because it is a rule, but because food closer to its natural state tends to taste better and sit more comfortably. This is a cooking sensibility, not a standard. What you do in the kitchen is yours to discover.

An old understanding,
finding new ground.

The connection between food and inner life has been observed across cultures for centuries. From the monasteries of East Asia to Vedantic philosophy, teachers and practitioners noticed that what we eat shapes how we think, how we feel, and how we show up for the people around us.

Pure Diet does not belong to any single tradition. It draws from this shared body of understanding and names it clearly, so that anyone — whatever their background — can find their own way into it.
